The End of Winter Quarter

And so ends a difficult/challenging quarter. A group of 20 something 20 something poets about long poems--what little I know about them. It was a heck of a lot of pages to read, but I think, in the end, the students wrote some really strong poems.

Will I teach the course again? Yeah, but not for awhile, and maybe not for undergrads. It's not that the undergrads aren't fully capable of writing fabulous long poems, it's that I can't handle reading so many pages at one time. It poses some real issues in workshop.

I did bring cupcakes to the last day of presentations. I had a healthy mix of chocolate and angel food. And each was topped with a St. Patrick's day gewgaw.

Meredith is watching Real Housewives of Orange County as I write this. Kill me.

My parents are out of town for the next week and a half, so we've had to divvy up the parenting responsibilities. Gosh, I miss the free babysitting. Wow.

I haven't written a poem in seven months. True story. And you know what? I'm okay with it. Every year it's the same way. I've got some projects that I want to work on, but I'm okay with the stillness.
